There is a saying that goes – “one has to be ruthless to succeed in business”. Although a very broad term, sometimes it comes across as contradictory to the more ‘humane’ virtues that propel successful businesses. One of them is empathy. Personally, I have always found it fruitful to associate with businesses that understand my needs in every sense of the word.
What is empathy and why is it a vital ingredient in the recipe for success? According to Wikipedia – “Empathy is the capability to share and understand another’s emotions and feelings. It is often characterized as the ability to put oneself into another’s shoes”. Being empathetic brings out statements like ‘I can relate to you’, ’I know how you feel’, ‘I understand your concerns’ and so on. A great trust-building tool that ensures long term credibility for any business.
Empathy is extremely relevant in online network marketing businesses, not only because of the mutual growth factor but also for teamwork. After all, to build a successful downline, you will need to demonstrate the ability to connect with the other members on an emotional level (to start with, at least). The better your ability to empathize, the more are the chances of turning qualified leads into business partners.
So, how does being empathetic affects your business?
- First of all, it helps you to draw a ‘plan of action’ according the needs of your new and existing customers. Unless you can relate to their requirements, it will be difficult to justify the viability of your product.
- Once the strategy or plan of action is in place, you will need to propagate the ideas in a way that it strikes a chord with your target market. In other words, the way you market your product should be in line with your customer’s expectations.
- Now that you have a strategy to run your business and a marketing plan aimed at attracting qualified leads, it is time to get down to real business, i.e. to sell your product. This is probably the most important step where your ability to empathize (or otherwise) will decide whether you succeed or not. If you yourself are not entirely happy of the product’s quality, chances are that most of your customers will also feel the same making your online business unsustainable for the long run.
All these leads us to the moral of the story, ‘Empathy=Successful Business’. Putting yourself into others’ shoes is not as hard as it is often made out to be. The better you are able to think alike and relate to your customers the easier will be your transition to the B-Quadrant.
Is there really such a thing called ‘Recipe for success’ when it comes to an online business in general and network marketing in particular? If so, what goes into this recipe that makes it so irresistible to serious online network marketing entrepreneurs? Why is it that not all who try their hand at creating this recipe succeed?
